Pastor Darren & Cassandra Pickard

Names : Darren (33yrs) & Cassandra (24yrs) Pickard

Church : Kadoma Baptist Church

Address : 7 Flamboyant Close, Mornington, Kadoma - Zimbabwe

Food : We eat anything and everything (as far as we know)

Profile : We are serving as a pastoral team at Kadoma Baptist Church where I have been serving as Pastor for the last 7 ½ years. I am a trustee of, and adviser to, Sungano youth group. Cassandra runs her own administrative business which she started 3 months ago. She is a very well-organized administrator and makes sure that I keep on top of my work. We got married in August last year and are thoroughly enjoying this journey that God has called us to in pastoral ministry.

We both enjoy interacting with people and love getting to know ‘what makes people tick’ – those things that drive and motivate a person; the substance that makes up the character of an individual. I absolutely love sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the whosoever and my declaration statement is ‘to know Christ and to make Him known.’ My wife is vocally gifted and is part of the worship team in our congregation. When we aren’t busy interacting with people, we love fishing, golfing, and playing squash together. Cassandra is learning to play the piano, and more recently, the guitar too. We love the outdoors and really enjoy camping. Our prayer toward this trip has been that God might be glorified as young people share faith and cultural experiences together, with Jesus Christ as the common denominator.

For both Cassandra and I, our desire on this trip is to be servant-leaders not only to the Sungano youth accompanying us, but to those with whom we will share and interact. May God prepare our own hearts and the hearts of folk in Stevenage for the work and plans He has for us during our stay, and may it see His will being done and His Kingdom being established as we share in each others’ lives over the 3 weeks.

Name: Brian
Surname: Chidarikire
About me:
I joined Sungano in 2006, and served in the executive committee as I.T. and communications officer. I worked with the group through the successful tuck-shop project and other community projects such the Old Peoples Home.
Sungano and Cornerstone became part of my life due to the projects that we were running with. Not only did it give me something to do and focus on to make it work, it gave other youths something to do as well. I was challenged to reach out to the youth in my community so that they would share in this great group that was changing the livelihoods of teenagers. The commitment of Cornerstone members was Out of this World.
Stevenage 2008
I hope this trip is a success.  If we achieve the interaction with the Stevenage society, and get to grasp their way of life as we also show them ours; That we get to establish stronger relations on a City to City level, Group level, and on a personal level, make friends, who will not be lost, but friends who will keep the friendship and the Spirit of Sunstone going. And most of all; that we realize that God has brought us together in one faith, then that would have been a successful trip for me.
I also hope to learn as much about Stevenage as I can in the short time that we have, and be able to give a clear and accurate report when I return home.
I love playing drums too, as I have a passion for music.
I used to collect stamps but now I have no idea where that box is.

About me

I was born in a Christian family but I received Christ when I was 13 years old. Since then there was no turning back. God was in control and he still is. In 2003 I joined Kadoma Baptist church as a church worker, and I am still with them. God is blessing me with friends especially from Sungano which has brought a great change in my prayer patterns. I did not know how to pray in group but now I pray through bible study, prayer meetings youth and in young adults. I see things differently now, how to handle criticism, conflicts and challenges. Proverbs 3:5-6, has been my eye opener in my life.

I am hoping to establish relationships with other young people from a different culture and background. Above all, to bring them to the serving Knowledge of Christ.

Motivator: Micah 7:7

Testimony

I have not always been the McNeil I am right now; I was once a rebel against the Lord. If I think about it now, I am shocked that of all the things that God did for me, is doing for me, and will do for me, how could I rebel against him? Three years ago I lived a self centered life, went t church just to please my family and was always concerned about my ego. It was only in 2006 that I realized that there was a loving father whose loving arms were opened wide waiting for me to run inside. My friend I in our fourth year in high school, started to lead a bible study in school. That is when the Lord purged my heart because I had taught the other kids not to do the very same things that I was doing. Our preacher said, you cannot teach what you don’t know, nor lead where you don’t go. I taught and led though i was just a hypocrite. I came to a point where I fell on my knees and asked God to take me back and because of what Jesus did on the cross, God took me back. Now I live an abundant life filled with joy that the world cannot give or take. God has given me Pastor Darren Pickard to lead me in Kadoma Baptist Church

Sungano

I joined Sungano mid year in 2007 but I have no words to describe what Sungano means to me. I have found friends, Joy, and with cornerstone giving us support, I am too blessed to be stressed.

I hope to experience the other part of the world and blend in with the culture so as to enjoy what God has created. Meeting and making new friends, young or old, I just want to develop a close relationship. 1 Corinthians 13:13

My Goals

It’s my desire to continue working Sungano so that many youths get to know the Lord. I also intend to help fellow youths achieve their goals through Sungano Pioneered Projects as well as helping the old and needy in Kadoma and Zimbabwe at Large. This, I hope, will be strengthened by the October visit.

I hope to meet fellow youths in Stevenage and get to establish strong relationships. these will see the growing of the Kadoma Stevenage Link and Sunstone to be precise.
